More web attacks coming in 2007
« on: December 15, 2006, 09:28 »
Online attacks will increase in 2007, according to security experts.

According to ScanSafe, more and more computers will be infected as a result of internet surfing.

ScanSafe revealed that 2006 was the year when web-based threats eclipsed traditional mass-mailing threats, and it says this trend will continue next year.

Surfers using social networking sites, reading blogs and using RSS feeds increase the risk of having their PC infected by malware, ScanSafe claimed.

According to ScanSafe, as many as one in every 600 social networking pages host malware and there have been recent cases of malware infecting Wikipedia, MySpace and YouTube pages.

Separately, McAfee has announced its top ten predictions for security threats in 2007 and claims that 'parasitic' malware, or viruses that modify existing files on a disk, will return.

McAfee also revealed that criminals are turning to social-networking sites like MySpace and Friendster to build online profiles of potential victims.
