Hi

Ive just ordered a AMD 2600+ and new mobo. Ive already got a Geforce 3 Ti200. I only have a 300W power supply the now. Will this be enough or should i get a more powerful one?

I think it should be enough Big_Boss, as long as you don't have lots of internal drives or USB-powered peripherals.

Bat69 is the expert. I'm sure he'll be able to confirm it for you.

Give or take a few bits, that's what I have running off a 300W PSU.

I have an AMD Athlon 1.3 and a Geforce 4 MX440. I'm not sure it their power requirements are different from the 2600+ and the GeForce 3.

A 300W PSU should be ok ... best thing is to try it and monitor the voltages. If they are within tollerance, then all is well ... if the machine is a little tempromental, and the voltages are low, then you will need a bigger PSU

It all depends on what current the individual items draw, two 60gig hard drives from different manufacturers could draw entirely different currents.

I would normally go for 350W as a minimum for a current setup with all those peripherals, but as you have a PSU, give that a try

If it turns out that the PSU aint powerful enough nothing is permantently going to go wrong. The PC will probably just crash?

Ive been looking at a 550W Qtec one anyway and it seems cheap so ill probably go for that if needed.

Yes that's how I understand it. The machine will either not power on, not power on with certain peripherals connected or just crash randomly

Normally, you'll be able to monitor the voltages from within the BIOS.

Your machine will probably just be unstable.

I'm currently using the Qtech 550W PSU ... is nice, no power switch, but that's how the price is cheap, no added extras. It keeps within voltage ok, although its prob only as good as a quality 450W PSU, but without the quality components.

Can't see why the QTech won't give you good service for the money tho
