Gmail.
« on: December 12, 2006, 11:01 »
I recently installed Gmail, (thanks Sam) but when I click on the little envelope tray icon it opens in IE.
Anyone know how I can get it to open in FF.

It's Gmail notifier, it's a little white envelope that sits in the tray, and when I click on it to check mail it opens in IE. I don't know how to change it so it uses FF instead.

I don't seem to have much luck with email notifiers, but I'm persistent.

I have to work out how to put my email addresses together and the email notifier so it works through Gmail.
But not now. :snooze:

You can't open mail in Firefox, MB, or in IE come to that.  :-\  Can we assume you mean Thunderbird, which is the accompanying mail client?  If so, try resetting it as your default mail client (Options > General).

it sounds like to me it notifies you when you have mail, and then when you click on it it brings you to the gmail website. the problem is that it is opening in IE instead of Firefox.

I don't use it so i can't help you much except to check and make sure that Firefox is set as your default browser, and then check whatever settings (if any) come with the notifier and see if you can set it there (probably not but worth a look)

Ah yes, you're probably right there, Scotty.  I was working along the lines of downloading mail to an email client via POP3.

I'll just point out that I always use websites for email instead of email clients. It's easier to access anywhere. They almost all have settings to send the email to another email address so I can access all my mail from 1 email too, so I don't have to worry about using too many emails. Sure, there are alternative ways to get email from anywhere but in my eyes this is the simplest.

of course for business emails, using a standard client is better, but I don't like it much at all for personal use.
