DIDN'T HELEN MIRREN DO WELL?
« on: February 26, 2007, 16:52 »
Sat up and watched the Oscars last night but had to record the second half as it went on till 6am in the morning.

Watched the rest this morning and my two choices for best actress and best actor won.

I thought both Helen Mirren and Forrest Whitaker were outstanding in their roles as The Queen and Idi Amin respectively.

Clint didn't win best director for Letters from Iwo Jima but  Martin Scorsese was a well deserved winner for The Departed.

The Departed also took best picture catagory.

Here's the full results for anyone who's interested.

I wondered why they televised such things as the Oscars and Baftas, I should have known that you would have watched them Lona  ::)

You could have been having a good natter on messenger instead of watching people getting rewarded for just doing what they get paid far too much for doing.

Apart from the Nobel prizes where are the prizes for people who dedicate their lives to serving and advancing humanity such as the scientists, surgeons and people who are doing things like stem cell research ?

Even the Nobel prizes are belittled these days by giving the same prize (and money), to someone for writing a bit of poetry as they do to someone who comes up with something important like discovering DNA  :(

Bet  you couldn't portray the Queen like Helen Mirren.

Jealousy will get you no where.  :wahh: :wahh: :wahh:

PS I got to see Clint.  That's better than watching some old boring scientist.  ;)

I almost didn't watch it, as Grey's Anatomy was on and a documentary called "The Denial Machine", but I did watch most of it.
I have been a big fan of both Helen Mirren and Forrest Whitaker, so I was very pleased. Also I was pleased for Jennifer Hudson, most people would have been crushed by being voted out of Idol, what is the saying..."when God closes a door, a window opens", or words to that effect.
I also thought Ellen did a great job.
