HI,
Anyone got a good easy guide to setting up (free) VNC. Need to give remote assistance to son over home network cos 2 flights of stairs is 2 too many!

As i understand it I set up his /c as a VNC server and mine as a viewer and I should then be able to control his m/c.

Links / guide appreciated.

what specific tool are you using?

Using Free ed of VNC, well would like to if I can get it to work.
Maybe a daft qn but will the free version allow me to remote access and control??

Its a similar thing to XPs built in RA Lona.

VNC (Virtual Network Computing) - Free Remote Control software that you can use to see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer. You can use VNC over LANs, WANs, Broadband ISP (Cable, DSL), and Modem Dial-up ISP. VNC is platform independent, which means you can remote control any Windows, Linux or Mac platform from any other platform. The performance will vary with the amount of networking bandwidth you have, but there are special encodings and compression to make the most out of the bandwidth available.

i expect so, not sure though - I only ever use mac / linux based programs to do this.... I'll try and have a read up on this later.. by free edition, could you give me more specific terms?

oh excellent, sorry i wasnt more help... was busy teaching the lat couple of days
