Slide Show Creator software
« on: February 06, 2007, 11:53 »
Hi y'all,

Have been looking for some kind of slide show creator software for some time now. Not bothered if I have to pay, just want to find one.

Would like to maybe make them so that I can burn photos to a dvd or vcd and show them on TV via a DVD player. Maybe being able to add captions etc, but thats not a necessity. More the fact that I can make a slide show maybe with music on a Dvd.

Anyone got any ideas???

Cheers in advance

Hi Moreno and :welcome;

If you are using XP then have a look at Movie Maker, its part of XP.

I have used it a few times recently and its very easy to use and will do just as you want with titles, credits and captions.
You can add transition effects and audio.

One disappointing thing is that it appears to have a limitation of around 150 photos at a time but you can save the first 150 as a .wma file then make your second part and save that and so on.
Once you have completed your slide show you can re import the saved .wma files into movie maker and it splits them into clips, around 15 photos per clip.
It will then join the clips and save them as one .wma file which you can then convert to a VCD, SVCD or DVD to play back on your TV DVD player.

I recently did one with 1488 slides, without any audio.
It made 10 clips which I re imported and made into one .wma file.

The titles, credits and captions are the easiest and best that I have seen on any programs.
Its just a shame that it has this limitation of 150 photos per session, it doesnt mention this anywhere in the help files, I found out by trial and error.
At least it is easily overcome and the advantages of Movie Makers ease of use and the variety of colours, fonts and effects for the text and titles etc make it worth it.

Cheers, I will give that a try and see how I get on. The thing is I may be changing to Vista very soon...lets see what that has to offer.

Cheers for the help.

That should be even better and hopefully wont have the 150 photo limitation.

In Vista it has Windows Movie Maker and also DVD maker.
Unfortunately the pc that I have installed Vista Ultimate on hasnt got a good enough graphics card in it yet and when I try and run either program it just says that it cant start due to the graphics card not being good enough  :(

You have probaly seen it already by now but just open Movie Maker and select Import pictures from the left side of the main window under Start making movie section 1.

Browse for the folder where your photos are stored and click on Import.
That will bring them all into the main window.
If they are in the correct order in your original folder then you can go to edit and select all at the top of the window to highlight all the photos then just drag all of them into the first slide of the storyboard at the bottom of the window.
It wil then arrange them one after the other and you can play the preview.

Use the make title and credit part in section 2 to add the text that you want.

I havent done any audio with it yet, I think you have to switch to timeline for that but I am sure you will find that part easy.

When you have finished your first part use the save option from section 3, Finish movie.

Any problems just ask  :)

I use a nice little program called ProShow Gold.  It's dead easy to use - just a matter of dragging and dropping the files from the file list to the photo and audio list and then adding captions as required.  It isn't free, well officially it isn't, but I'm sure you know what I mean.   >:-)
