A feature has been added to the Google Maps service that should make it easier for you to create your own customised maps.
My Maps is so easy to use, according to Google, that you can simply point and click to add placemarks, embed text and draw lines on a map using the drag-and-drop interface.
Some Googlers have already created custom maps, including one that plots a route around Japan that can be completed in 28 days and another that shows cities that have hosted the Olympic games.
"We expect that public maps created by our users will further enrich the Google Maps and Earth search experience by providing additional rich, local, and visual information about the world from our best source - our users," Google said in a statement.
Once the customised map has been created, it is assigned a public URL so you can send it to friends and family to view. Maps can also be published so it can be included in Google Maps search results.
