maybe there is a timeout issue, how long does the desktop machine renew the ip address being given to the laptop?

It may be one of those frustrating Microsoft Windows issue. I have a printer networked to my computers and every so often WinXP deletes the printer's IP address. I then have to correct it manually.

Iv Sorted it YIPPY!!!!!!!
It was my Anti virus blocking my network, dont know why it had changed, but any way iv sorted now

yes my antivirus is a suite and has spyware hacker, firewall, etc is a great piece of kit

oh i see... i wouldnt have though of the antivirus program, in my head people still have seperate apps for those things - no bother having them all together but I never think of that... oh well, it got fixed which is the best bit! :-)

Yes, it is. Well done!
I don't mean that to sound patronising, but it's nice to hear from another suite user, as many people tend to go for stand alone combinations, and then run into problems with incompatibilities. I have used KIS, but got annoyed with the constant pop ups, so I now use F-Secure Internet Security.
