Spam gangs target big ISPs
« on: May 15, 2007, 14:17 »
Some of the biggest names in the UK ISP market are the top targets of gangs sending unsolicited mail.

TalkTalk, Orange, Pipex and PlusNet all feature in the top ten most spammed list drawn up by ClearMyMail, a company that offers anti-spam solutions to businesses and individual users.

The company analysed two years' worth of data and found that 95 per cent of all email received by some ISPs were spam.

Dan Field, mManaging director of ClearMyMail said: ?These are some worrying statistics and I admit I was shocked when I saw some the names in the top 10 ISPs who seem to take little or no action when it comes to preventing spam."

Force9.net and TalkTalk both had an average spam rate of 95 per cent. Of web-based email providers, Yahoo was the only company to feature in the top ten with 89 per cent.

?There is little doubt in my mind that ISPs, anti-spam and anti-virus providers need to get together to see what can be done to eliminate the time consuming and frustrating spam emails,? said Field.
