video card issues
« on: May 16, 2007, 16:51 »
bought a new video card ATI 9250 sapphire 256MB then installed the latest catalyst drivers.when i ran dxdiag i noticed agp texture acceleration is disabled and the button is greyed out.when i went to the ati catalyst control centre i can increase the agp speed to 8x but it asks for a restart and after restarting when i check i find its off.
any ideas?? ???

Can you roll back the drivers to the original ones or uninstall the drivers and install the ones from the CD that came with the card ?

tried reinstalling directx still the same....something awkward is usually when you reinstall directx it usually speeds past the installation bit but while i was reinstalling (did it like 5 times) it always installed as if for the first time!!dont know whetha that is helpful info.

umm thats odd - it appears as if it is installed though, might be worth checking in case two versions are installed.

Also a thought, maybe sandra will know more, do you need to setup on the mobo the speed that the AGP card can work at?

Maybe if we know the mobo make and model that may help us to find the problem.

I think most set themselves to the correct speed automatically these days Sam.

new observation has come into light.....the slot for agp on the mobo is labeled AGP Express.dont know whether that might be the problem? :-\...the mobo is an intel 865GV/775.there is no setting in the cmos setup for agp speed.

Never heard of AGP express  :dunno:

I have been reading the PDF manual for your mobo and the specifications for your GFX card.

1.8.5 AGP slot
When you buy an AGP card, make sure that you ask for specification. Note the notches on the card golden fingers they fit the AGP slot on your mother board. Install only 1.5V or 0.8V AGP cards on this motherboard!
motherboard does not support 3.3V AGP cards.

Graphics Adapter Priority [AGP/Int-VGA]
Allows you to select the graphics adapter to use as primary boot device.
Configuration options: [Internal VGA] [AGP/Int-VGA][AGP/PCI] [PCI/AGP] [PCI/Int-VGA]

Asus PDF Manual doesnt show advanced bios options so I cant see the other settings.

ATI Radeon 9200 series :

System Requirements
compatible with AGP 2X (3.3V), 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (2X/4X/8X) or PCI bus.

The AGP card should run at 8x if its auto detecting it and dropping the voltage to 0.8v, if its sticking at 4v for some reason then it may only be allowing it to run at 4x on boot up and maybe it doesnt support the texture acceleration unless its at 8 x  :dunno:

Have you got the Graphic adapter priority set to AGP/PCI ?

Other than that I cant see anything else that you can alter unless theres something in the advanced settings that I cant see in the PDF manual.
