And judging by those figures, it's a certainty that the figure has risen to more than 300 million by now, according to internet monitoring company Point Topic.
?Given the prevailing growth rates it is safe to assume the number has now passed 300 million,? said Dr Katja Mueller, Research Director at Point Topic.
The number of broadband lines in the UK now stands at a shade under 14 million, with 60 million lines in the US, and 56 million broadband connections in China.
Japan, Germany, France and South Korea also feature high up in the list.
Recent research from comScore suggested that the UK had the most active online population in Europe.
