Tiscali has been named among the best-performing ISPs in the latest Epitiro report.
Epitiro's Consumer ADSL Internet Performance Indicator Report examines a number of different aspects of an ISPs service including connection speed, download speed, ping rate and connection reliability.
In the rankings for the second quarter of 2007, BT came top overall for the fifth time in a row, with Demon and Pipex keeping their places within the top five.
However, Tiscali, which has recently bought the broadband and voice divisions of Pipex, entered the top five for the first time.
"In terms of technical performance, BT, Demon and Pipex are consistently maintaining their presence in the top five," said Gavin Johns, managing director of Epitiro.
"Tiscali achieved the highest connection speed in the report with BT offering the fastest FTP and HTTP download speed, which normally reflects the speed of general web browsing," said Johns.
Demon Internet had the lowest percentage of connection failures in the second quarter of 2007 and BT also won praise, along with Orange, for its fast ping times.
"BT and Orange provided the lowest ping time average, which measures response rates to information requests. A fast ping time is generally desirable for online gamers," said Johns.
PlusNet also featured in the top five having dropped out of the rankings for the first quarter of 2007.
