ISP Review
The UK has placed a pitiful 9th out of the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation's (ITIF) European league table for broadband speeds.
The results offered an average broadband speed of just 2.6Mbps for the UK, which compares with 21.7Mbps for no.1 success Finland:
1. Finland - 21.7Mbps
2. Sweden - 18.2Mbps
3. France - 17.6Mbps
4. Holland - 8.8Mbps
5. Poland - 7.5Mbps
6. Germany - 6Mbps
7. Hungary - 3Mbps
8. Slovakia - 2.8Mbps
9. UK - 2.6Mbps
10. Switzerland - 2.3Mbps
11. Ireland - 2.2Mbps
12. Turkey - 2Mbps
13. Czech Republic - 1.6Mbps
14. Spain - 1.2Mbps
15. Greece - 1Mbps
Naturally both Sweden and Finland have established Fibre networks but that's not the only difference. In addition Finnish households can expect to pay roughly 50% less than we do for their broadband connections, which are also a lot faster to boot.
However the UK is likely to jump a couple of places next year when BT finally introduces its new ?up to? 24Mbps ADSL2+ technology, although it may take some time to find its footing and many may not experience a huge boost in speed.
