Malware targets to change in 2008
« on: December 20, 2007, 16:25 »
Cybercriminals will change their tactics in 2008 and target newer technologies such as VoIP (voice-over internet protocol) telephony.

They will also turn their attention away from Windows-based operating systems and start targeting the Mac OS more, according to PandaLabs.

This is largely because the iPhone uses the Mac OS, so attackers will attempt to find holes in the platform to exploit so they can infect the popular device with malware.

Luis Corrons, technical director at PandaLabs, said: "The current platforms will not be the only ones under attack. As systems like the iPhone become more popular among users, malware creators will start to use them to spread their creations and obtain benefits."

Theft will be the main motivation of cybercriminals, according to PandaLabs, with Trojans that steal financial details one of the most popular types of attack.

Mrs Clive might have to install antivirus software! Is there any free AV available for a Mac?
