The problem was that the allow attachments box needed to be checked in OE so now it opens OK.  However, it works fine for IE but it doesn't seem to work for Outlook Express.

I'm using "Outlook Express 6", spell check is working fine, not sure why it wont work for you?, if you click on "create" do you see the spell check button?

Yes I do, but it's still in French.     The iespell program downloaded OK but it doesn't seem to have integrated with OE.  Not sure what I've done wrong!        :bawl:

Yes, I've uninstalled the original and unstalled the new one, but French is still the only option available under tools- options- spelling, select language.   :dunno:

Hi Clive,   did a google on this and found loads of same probs. most have tried a 3rd party spell checker as said here, some worked some didnt but also found this in a forum which might be worth trying.....it sounds like it might work too one of those obvious things you always never think of  ;D ;D

....... install just the proofing tools from your previous version of Office (using the custom install option).  You can get them from any older Office suite or application - including FrontPage, Publisher or standalone versions of Word, Excel, or Outlook.

To install just the proofing tools from Office 2003, run Office setup and choose the custom option. Uncheck all programs in the list and add a check to choose the options at the bottom of the programs list. No the nest screen, set each top level item to be Not Available (red X icon). Expand the Office Shared Features branch and locate Proofing tools in the list. Expand proofing tools and choose English, setting it to Run from my computer. Finish the installation.

Once installed, restart OE - go to Tools, Options and verify Spelling is configured to use the correct English dictionary.

I'm getting nervous now!  The custom install seems a bit vague to me and I don't want it overwriting my Office 2007 because I don't have the CD's for it.  Have a look at this screenshot of my Office 2000 custom install ....

I decided that the little + boxes meant that I wanted to include the feature but by changing each section to a - then it wasn't included.  I just left the tools/proofing checked and let it install.  It took ages to install but I made a new filepath so it couldn't interfere with my Office 2007.  When I clicked on Office 2007 it went through a configuration setup and came back with an error message saying the new feature was incompatible.  However Office still worked fine.  But when I went into OE6 the spellcheck is now in English!

Thanks guys for all your help on this.  Brilliant work!!!

That's excellent, Clive, and full marks to Baz for finding it!   If we used Karma that would be worth at least a couple!  :thumb:
