Does USB Support 20 Meg?
« on: December 30, 2007, 21:58 »
For some reason I can't get my new mobo ethernet to work, so I'm using it via USB atm, but it doesn't download no where near what it should be, and it's on "10mbs"?

Sorry, I'm not really sure what the question is. Are you saying that you're using a USB modem rather than a router? If so, you may well find that your line speed has dropped, and with it your profile. Can you extract some line stats?

If that's not what you're saying, could you explain exactly what you are doing?

Can you get line stats from that? The most likely cause of your speed issue is the modem, USB will support ADSL flat out.

Downstream sync speed, noise margin and attenuation. If you can, a BT speed test would also be handy: http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/

Could the modem be a USB 1.x device?

It's 2x. On statues it's saying 10 MBPS? it's normally 100 on Ethernet, is that whats causing it?

Sounds like its only a USB 1 modem.
That would limit it to 12mb max so 10mb would be about right.
Ethernet would give you 100mb.

Unless your internet connection is over 10mb you shouldnt notice any difference in downloading, surfing and emailing, only slower data transfers between any PCs that you have on your network but if you are using USB to your PC then I assume that you arent networked.

It's a USB 2 supported modem I'm sure as it's not old, and I'm on 20 meg  :dunno:
