if you have a 20mb connection then the max you will ever get with the usb mmodem connected is indeed 10mb. maybe we should see if we can help you get your new mobo's ethernet to work?

Well normally i plug it in, and it sorts it's self out :s, ethernet now i mean

ok - well when you plug in the ethernet do you get any signs of activity - i.e. does windows detect a network? Does the lights on the router show a connection?

I suppose it's entirely possible that the USB drivers don't support higher speeds. Have you asked NTL?

I'm gonna pick a new NIC card soon, only explanation i can think of it that it reads the modem as USB one as you said :(

Even if the modem was USB 1.1 - you'd still be able to achieve a theoretical max of 10mbit, which is 1.25MB (1220K/s) (less overheads, cable loss etc, but certainly over 1000k/s).
