OK   can anyone explain the differences with the memory for PCs.  Im looking for some ddrII  but dont understand all the different numbers that come with them.

DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-8500   whats all that about. some sites have it as 400/533/667/800   

whats a CL number. is a higher or lower number better.

can you point me in the right direction for an explanation

I'm sure someone will be able to enlighten you soon, Baz, but in the meantime, if you know the model number of your motherboard, you could do worse than to have a look at www.crucial.com/uk, who will match compatible memory to your motherboard.  Might just be a start until you can find out further info.

Mobo manufacturers usually refer to the bus speed saying that their mobo will support RAM of 400/533/667/800.
RAM manufacturers call their RAM by the code DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-8500, for some reason.
I cant remember all the equivalents but DDR2 PC2-5300 = 667.

CL is the latency of the ram and the lower the number the faster the speed.

thanks Simon. have been there and its good. its just all the different figures that confuse it. Im sure Ive asked before on here so apologies if so. was also looking for some for my sons system which has ddr in but the prices seem ridiculous.



Sandra.... yeah thanks it clears some up but why is it that a high ddr2 number, which is fast(is that correct) has a high cl number. wouldnt a high speed be lower latency.
