Re-installing Windows XP?
« on: January 13, 2008, 11:49 »
I'm not sure if I should put all of these questions in the thread about upgrading Michael's computer or not, anyway it's a software problem, (I think).

Can we re-install Windows XP from the Medion Operating System Installation CD, when we replace the MB and CPU? Assuming we need to that is?

What Sam said, MB, it's almost certainly an OEM version, tied to the original hardware.

If your "Windows XP" is "OEM" , you might have trouble once the OEM version is activated on a PC, it can never be legally transferred from it to another PC, even if the PC dies,That's why it is cheaper. I replaced the m/b on a PC then reloaded XP OEM but i could not activate it , rang Microsoft support they just said it was a different PC
& did not want to know about it, i ended up using modified version of XP. Thats the last time i will pay for anything from Microsoft.

Thanks guys, not the answer I was hoping for.  :(

I do have another question, and you will notice, if you haven't already, I have no idea how all this stuff works.

What happens to all the stuff on his harddrives when they are hooked up to the, programs, operating systems and games???????  :dunno:

Just do i windows repair install, it's reloading XP but all your data will be saved, you will need to install the drivers CD that came with your M/B.   Info here: http://www.overclockers.com/tips1155/index.asp

If it makes sense to you, let me know, all it did was confuse me.  :-\

I'll do more reading in the morning.  :snooze:
