Topic: Motherboard that will support E8400

I have sort of decided to get an Intel E8400 CPU instead of a E6750, as they are around the same price.

But there seems to be a little confusion as to what motherboard will support these. The Gigabyte site states that the  GA-P35-DS3P (rev. 2.0) will support the 6 series CPU's but doesn't mention the 8 series. Is this because they weren't out when this was updated  (rev. 2.0) .

As the GA-P35-DS3P (rev. 2.1) does support the 8 series CPU's.

I know it states

Supports Intel® Core? 2 multi-core and upcoming 45nm processors

, but will the earlier versions support the 8400, or will it have out dated bios?

I couldn't even find a compatible board on the Intel site.......

Theres a list of ASUS mobos here that says which support 45nano MB.
Look for the ones that do 1333 FSB and you may as well get one that will support quad core as no doubt Michael will want one of those sometime in the near future

What's the difference with a P35 Chipset and a G35 Chipset, I know that the G is more to do with

but does the this affect the CPU's performance, and in what way?

Will his old WD 250GB harddrive from the 8383 be compatible as well as his Pioneer DVD RW and DVD ROM?

They will be but you may find that you dont have enough IDE connectors.
Newer mobos only tend to have a single IDE channel so you can only connect 2 PATA IDE devices.
You can always add a PCI IDE controller board if you need to connect more IDE devices than your mobo supports directly, theyre quite cheap

Thats the type of card you would possibly need if you had too many PATA IDE devices for the mobo.

That mobo has 1 x IDE connector and 8 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors
So you would need the card unless you ditched one of the CD/DVD writers and got a SATA one.

Very nice board and a really good review, thanks Cam. 

But alas, no. Michael has done away with the thought of running 2 cards, thank goodness.

So we have been eyeing off the GA-P35C-DS3R (rev. 2.1). The DDR2/DDR3 support I thought was maybe a good idea for the future, if the price ever comes down.

Found a couple of places that sell them now so hopefully a lot more places will have by the end of the week. And they will be cheaper the DS4.
