Yes-Ive just checked FAQ in uTorrent, and in answer to the question "Does uTorrent install itself" it said

No, it is a stand-alone application, unless you use the installer version. However, on first run, it will ask if you would like to make shortcuts on your start menu and desktop.

 Im useing the installer version!

Well, that's something of a relief for me, in that it seems I may not be going senile just yet after all.   :P

Curiously, it shows on my Vista machine as installed, but not on my XP machine, which I was looking at, as I believe Kaz runs XP.

I must have originally used the 'no-installer' version, which updates as it is.  If the 'no-installer' option is no longer available, this is where the confusion lies.   ::)  Perhaps it's one of those programs which prefer to run off the 'C' drive, and give no option?

I must be running the installer version then  ::) some versions when you update don't have the installer version it's all clear now I wonder why some do and some don't oh well Ill stick to this version for now it's not banned on any forums where as 1.77 is and some other earlier versions had problems apparently 1.6.1 is ok

When you stop having dreams and ideals -- well, you might as well stop altogether.

utorrent.com only offers a standalone .exe for download. Sounds to me like you have downloaded it from somewhere else, and most likely has been packaged with an installer so it can install some nice toolbars etc (i.e. spyware).

Download the .exe from utorrent.com - http://download.utorrent.com/1.7.7/utorrent.exe

Hi Adz, and  :welcome:

That link, when run, actually gives the option to install the program, or run it from the .exe file.  :)

You're right, ooops

I ran it with uTorrent already running, just re-focused uTorrent so presumed it was still a standalone app as before. Quite a dinky little installer they've strapped on :)

RE: original question - just install it, and move the utorrent folder from c:\program files to wherever you want, and fix any shortcuts. it'll work as before

Welcome aboard Adz :welcome:

I couldnt believe it when I saw that youd posted not just once but 8 times after being a member for so long.
Pleased that you finally got around to speaking  :)

For people that dont know, Adz is a bit of a technical guru on mpeg 4 and such stuff.
He started a forum that me and I think Lona joined and got a lot of help off, many years back when we both got our Yamada DivX DVD players.

It recently has had a rennaisance and can be found at :
