I didn't have that particular problem, but I'm convinced Saturday's updates f***ed up my router, as the wireless connection died immediately after the updates, and I couldn't get it working again until I changed to another router.  It may have been a coincidence, but a bloody unlikely one, given that the updated installed some new thing to do with IPv6.   >:(

If the Vista updates were to mess up my computer any further, I probably wouldn't notice.

I havent had any problems with Vista, before or after the recent updates, apart from having to get some newer versions of programs to replace the older ones that werent compatable.
I have been running it for about 15 months now and am amazed at how many people dont like it or even want to try it.

It's not that I don't like it, San, it's just that my laptop is fairly low spec, so would probably run better on XP.  I did, however, have to reinstall the touchpad drivers after a WU, and now this thing with the router, does make me wonder if they are chucking out updates without fully testing them.

The old story. Repeated again. Will people never learn?
"If it ain't broke, don't mend it"
But no, having brought something out, and struggled over time to get it right, just as it is about perfect go and scrap it for something new.
THEN START THE UPHILL STRUGGLE OF SORTING OUT ALL THE BUGS AND PROBLEMS IN THE NEW!!!!

They want to hang more bells and whistles on it, often of little or no value, and then spend more time trying to sort it out and get it to work properly!

It has to be a no brainer. :(

I got a look at vista on a friend's machine and it didn't impress me. I'll probably end up moving to ubuntu when i build my next machine.

I am fed up with trying to record television programmes on my Vista machine, only to have them fail.  Each time I get a windows error message.

They're talking about Windows 7 being out next year, aren't they?

Blimey, gmax, you're even more cynical than I am.  I never install any Microshaft software until it has been out for three years - probably explains why I rarely have any problems - but even I would expect them to have it right without having to wait FOUR bloody years!

Having said that, I will probably be on XP for the foreseeable futureas I will be treating Vista as I did ME and avoiding it.  Should Windows 7 be out next year that makes it 2012 before I will even consider updating.

The problem with that idea is that you won't be able to take advantage of the hardware innovations that come around between a year ago and then. XP needs a special version just to take advantage of 64bit processors.

Fair point, Bob, but as my computer needs don't venture beyond editing a few photos, using Office applications, sending emails and a bit of surfing, I don't envisage needing anything more advanced than my 1.8Ghz, 1GB RAM system for the foreseeable future.  ;)
