Hard Drive Problems
«

Hi Guys,
The other day I turned on my pc and my hard drive was making a kind of skipping noise. It then kept bringing the OS screen up as if it was starting up and then just restarting. Its a 400gb SATA drive, and I kept trying to start it up. It now has eventually started up, but every so often when writing to the HD it makes the skipping noise and delays the write a little.
Any ideas on whats happening? Anything I can do?

Well, it does sound like the hard drive might be dying. I would think your first plan of action would be to back up anything essential, while you have the chance. It could just carry on forever like this, but it's a question of whether you want to take that risk.

Yes, I would consider it to be the gypsies warning!

It happens, back up and contact the retailer for a replacement.

Probably. Who did you buy it from? If online, your order confirmation might be enough, but many online retailers have specific returns policies, where you have to email them, and they then send you a returns authorisation code.
