I've used google answers, doesn't seem to have flopped, just not really took off. People can normally find the answer fairly quickly with google. I agree it is probably a flawed idea but I could easily see a system like this a nice addon to wikipedia.
I've also used googlecheckout and do fairly often. It's simple and keeps me immune to the spam from sites. I like it and it works really well if you have an issue with the product.
