Firefox 3 on one in five PCs
« on: June 24, 2008, 13:29 »
Mozilla has gained an increased foothold in the browser market at the expense of Internet Explorer and Safari since the release of Firefox 3.

The open-source browser gained nearly a one per cent increase in the week since its release giving it a 19.17 per cent of the global browser market, according to web analyst Net Applications.

Opera, which released version 9.5 of its browser days before Mozilla released Firefox 3, increased slightly as well.

But Vince Vizzaccaro, of Net Applications, stressed that these figures alone do not reveal a complete picture.

"We do show Firefox going up, but I want to caution that it may be artificially high," he said referring to the eight million plus downloads of Firefox on Download Day.

Internet Explorer is by far the most popular with just under 73 per cent of surfers worldwide using Microsoft's browser. Apple's Safari is the browser of choice for just over 6 per cent of surfers.
