« on: August 08, 2008, 12:56 »
Im begining my shopping list for my build and almost fallen at the first fence.the Q6600 £113 having read a few reviews this looks good but the heatsink seems not to be man enough for the job.any suggestions.I dont want a fry up before I start.if as some are stating this runs a little warm should I be afraid of this bundle I really need a tried and tested surely..although this one seems to tick the boxes for me, ???

Assuming you're not going to be over clocking it, David, I would have thought the heatsink to be adequate enough, or Intel would be receiving fried CPUs back by the dozen.  I have the Dual Core version, and the heat sink supplied with mine seems fine, but don't take my word for it, hang on for other opinions.

Out of curiosity, where did you read that the supplied heatsink is inadequate?

So, what's stopping you?  I really don't think they would ship a high quality CPU with a crap heatsink.

Just bear in mind, some of them don't have PS/2 mouse / keyboard connectors, just USB.

Something that doesn't break easily!  ;D
Or hire someone with a gentle touch to install it! ;D
Plenty of those Q6600 CPU's over here for about $150, used but good as new.

Oh, the thing with the PS/2 connectors?  Most have one for the keyboard, which is probably the most vital, as sometimes you can't, for example, get into safe mode with a USB keyboard, if it doesn't load the drivers quick enough.  I use USB for both, but have the PS/2 option, which I have never needed so far.
