High TV stand
« on: August 24, 2008, 18:35 »
I'm looking for a higher than usual TV stand.  It's got to be 60cm tall, with enough shelf space for five boxes, including a large AV amp, and be able to hold a 37" flat screen TV.  All the stands I have come across have been too low to fit everything into, or have been Hi-Fi stands, which are not suitable for the TV.  I also don't want it to cost more than, say, £100.  Any help appreciated!

:)

Seems like a good DIY project Simon, especially of you can't get what you want.  DIY has never been so easy thanks to B&Q, Homebase and Wickes.

It would be a great DIY project - that was my first thought when I read this thread.  With a good straight edge, a router and a few cutters, an accurate square and a saw (to make life easier :) ) it should be well within the capabilities of most people.

I'm not 'most people' Gill, and can barely put up a coat hook without taking half the plaster off the wall.  ;D

David, thanks for those suggestions.  This is the sort of thing I've got now, and it needs to be much the same.  The only reason I want to replace it is, it's starting to look a bit tatty.

  Though, I suspect, as Gill said, it's probably a DIY or custom job.

It's a pity you don't live nearer to me, or I'd make one for you.  I'm sure I could do it for less than £100.  If you like, I could try to put you in touch with some other woodworkers in your area who will be able make one.

No, it doesn't have to be wood, but I'd prefer it to be black.

Thanks Gill, may come back to you on that,  :)
