Don't worry too much about it, Dsvid, but thanks. The style I need is basically what's in the pic above.

If you have one of those crappy LCD or Plasma TVs Simon, cant you just fasten it to the wall
I am so pleased that I bought my HD CRT TV, especially after recently watching SD TV on my nieces very expensive, new LCD one

No, I can't fasten it to the wall, Sandra, because it's in a corner, and it's also under a sloping ceiling, not to mention that the walls in new properties these days will barely hold a picture up, let alone a TV.

No, not really, David. Wouldn't be enough room as far as I can see.
Anyway, I'm off for a couple of days now, so will catch up when I get back on Thursday evening.

I always laugh when people go on about how thin Plasma and LCD TVs are as they take up so little room compared to a CRT, then they stick them in the same corner that their old TV went in. They take up the same amount of space that way as they angle them across the corner so you do have more space but as its all behind the TV its of no benefit at all

True Sandra,I have resisted putting mine on the wall,as far as I can see I will need to chanel out for all the cables for Sky,Home Cinema etc, aand its easier to bundle the cables behind the set.
I plan to buy a slightly larger TV before Christmas and also wll redeorate the room so thats the time when the TV will go on the wall. One problem i have never solved is the Home cinema speakers no room seems to be the right shape ?unless you wish to sit right in the centre of a room which is daft...this one will remain the same until a fortune spent on a suround system which doesnt require the square area needed for iptimum sound....but I rarely use it so academic really

I've always felt that surround sound is a waste of time unless you're prepared to dedicate a room to it, David. Better yet, build a cinema.

I have tried for years to get it right and now I dont like it that loud so admitted defeat...I do know someone who did that when they bought a house which needed a major refurb she spent (this is true) around 20 K for the cinema room alone a specialist company came in,floorboards up etc,(part of the rebuild)there is no cable showing and speakers in ceiling, walls and god knows where everything in that house is controlled by a remote control,I have never seen it but it sounds very high tech and very expensive ...way way out of most peoples price range I think the whole project including the house was just under that magic figure of 1 million pounds.......so no trip to Argos of Comets for her,and she lives with her cats........

I've stayed in a house that had a cinema included in the basement when it was built, so no wires, lots of attention to the acoustics and a large projected TV/DVD image. It was certainly the way to do things.

Think its the only way to really get the effect......but you need a bank account larger than the basement to achieve it

Sounds right Rik,to be honest Im not sure the exact sum she paid for this place but she got nearly 4 million in a divorce,(half the company) and bought a very old counrty house in need of major work....she is lovely and the cinema thing only came up when I mentioned having one she is very nice and would you believe hates money.and this I know is true I have known her many years, she shops in Primark but isnt mean just came up the hard way in life and made something of herself, the money sounds huge and it is but she put in over 25 years work for the company and her silly hubby runs off with a secretary just out of school.....well half his age....they never learn
