9800GX2 8 pin power connecters?
« on: December 06, 2008, 07:32 »
I'm wanting to buy a 9800GX2 Black Edition. But it comes with a 6 pin and 8 pin psu connectors. And my Antec Trio 550w only has two 6 pin connectors?
So what do I do, get a 8 pin to two 8 pin splitter. Or get a 6 pin to 8 pin connector? But what are the 2 extra pins for? grounding  ???

The Black Edition is OC'ed and draws extra power, so will the 6 pin supply enough?

I have emailed Antec and the owner of the 9800GX2 has emailed XFX for advice, but who knows how long that will take to get a reply.

I really don't want to spend $200 on a new PSU as this card and the new monitor I'm getting is way over my budget already.  :bawl:

Not to worry, Michael has offered to buy a new PSU. There are benefits to letting him know what he's getting for Xmas.  :)
