Recovery Disc on new PC
« on: November 28, 2008, 11:23 »
My friend has just purchased a new PC with Vista, and upon setting it up it asked to burn a copy of the operating system for future use, (No disc was provided).

Here are details-

Packard Bell model 2215 E1200. Problem with Recovery Disc programme. Programme collects all files for Recovery Disc but when it reaches the window for cutting recovery disc runs for about 5 seconds then says application failed.

This is a brand new machine-with no other software installed except that which came with machine. We have tried different discs, with no success. He now has a machine that is working OK but no recovery disc!

Any ideas please?

Yes, I would tend to agree with Rik.  If it's brand new out of the box, and is showing signs of a fault, to ignore or work round it, could be storing up problems for later.

Bad implementation on hp 's part i suspect but theyre all at it these days Sony do the same and expect the customer to buy recordable media to burn  recovery discs on purchase of a new laptop. Mine came with three recovery discs and is a Sony vaio but theyre cutting corners now that prices are falling and the market is getting more cutthroat

The saving in not providing recovery discs must be so minimal, it's hardly worth losing customer satisfaction over, is it?

It isn't, but try telling the accountants that. :(
