No-one really, it was just a variation on a grape or oil press. What Gutenberg invented was movable type, and it was that which revolutionised printing and lead, eventually, to the concept of DTP.

My cousin was in the print trade back in the 60s / 70s, and even perhaps, early 80s.  He retired to become an antique clock dealer / repairer, and to move to Devon.
