Google helps stop accidental emails
« on: March 20, 2009, 17:45 »
Google has unveiled a new tool for Google Mail that could put an end to the embarrassment of sending an email to the wrong person.

The Undo Send tool lets you cancel the sending of an email - although you've only got a five-second opportunity to use the facility.

To try out the new tool, turn on Undo Send in Gmail Labs under Settings, and you'll see a new Undo link at the top of every sent mail confirmation. Click Undo and Google will snatch back the message before it's sent and move it into the Drafts folder.

Michael Leggett, a user experience designer at Google, said in the official Gmail blog: "Sometimes I regret sending a message the morning after. Other times I send a message and then immediately notice a mistake. I've had Undo Send turned on for a while and it's saved me several times."

At the end of 2008, Google added a tool called Mail Goggles, which helps prevent you sending messages you wish you hadn't.

It strikes me that it might have been more useful had they given more than five seconds to realise a mistake.  A minute or two would seem more reasonable.

24 hours would be better in my case so I can sleep on it.   ;D

That reminds me of Brian Boru, but we'd need to move to the DZ. :)
