Twitter worm warning issued
« on: May 27, 2009, 13:57 »
Twitter members have been advised to watch out for a scam that claims to help you get more followers.

Twitter security alerts have become very common in recent months and the latest involves a third-party site by the name of Twittercut.

Members typically see a message that says "OMG I just got over 1,000 followers today from twittercut.com".

If you click on the link you are taken to the Twittercut website and asked to enter your Twitter login details.

However security firm PC Tools said the people behind the scam were harvesting the login details in order to hijack members' accounts and bring more traffic to the Twittercut site.

The Twittercut site makes money from the number of visitors it attracts and PC Tools reckons that the people behind it will have amassed thousands of dollars by now.

The company also warned members to be careful of how they researched this particular threat.

Sergei Shevchenko, senior malware analyst at PC Tools said: "As people look for new information on the threat, it's important to tell them that cybercriminals may be using this opportunity to find more victims.

"Like any threat it's important that consumers know what to look out for to keep their computers and their records safe," Shevchenko continued.

I still haven't worked out a point to it yet, a viewpoint I seem to share with Hugh Laurie.
Slainthe!
