Topic: Help with Entertainment set up

Can anyone give me a clue how to connect-up the following ;;;;
  1. NEC LCD TV with HDMI,VGA (in) , YPbPr (in) , ANT , S Video , RCA AV Inputs x 2 , Outputs x 1
  2. Teac 5.1 Home Th Receiver(AG20D) with HDMI (out x 1 , DVD In x 1 and AV In x 1 ) , RS232 , S Video(Monitor out x 1 , DVD in x 1 , AV in x 1) , Video IN/Out -( Vid out for RCA to TV ,V1 &2 In for external players , Digital in -AV1 , AV2 and DVD(optional) , Analog in /out - (Tape out /in , Aux in , AV 1&2 in and DVD in .
  3.  Bauhn HD Pers Vid Recorder  with Ant in/out , HDMI , VGA , Coax , S Video , RCA , YPbPR , Digital Audio (coax/optical) , RS232 and VGA Connector
  4.DVD Player (Highlander DVX4350) with RCA out , YPbPR , S Video out .
  5.DVD Player/VCR (LG V271) with Ant In/out , S Video out (DVD only) , Coax (Dig Audio out-DVD only) , YPbPr , RCA DVD/Video out , RCA Video in (VCR in AV1)
  6.Digital Sat receiver with Sat in , if out , TV Scart , VCR Scart , S/PDIF Digital out , RCA , Ant in (TV via loop optional) , and TV out (TV via RF cable optional  .
Its all a bit much to understand , but if you can tell me what to connect to what via whatever type of lead , Ill be ok . Thanks Ivan .

If nobody beats me to it, I'll come back to on this later.  Are you starting from scratch with just a stack of equipment, and have you got all of the required leads?

HDMI is the best connection followed by component (YPbPr) followed by VGA. I assume that you are in the USA and not in europe as you havent mentioned any scart connectors, apart from on the sat receiver, but have RCA in, so the next best would probabl be Svideo followed by RCA.

I would connect the receiver via HDMI to the TV, dont be conned into buying an expensive HDMI cable as its digital and doesnt have the same problems as you get with cheap analogue cables.
Connect the Bauhn via HDMI to the receiver.

Have you not got component in on your receiver, red, green and blue RCA ?
If you have then use those for the Highlander

Can you take good quality photos of the back of the receiver so we can check exactly what type of conectors you have available before I carry on with the other boxes

Just try and keep the hdmi cable path clear from any power cables en-route to the TV coz some of the cheaper ones aren't as well shielded, although as Sandra says they are digital and it's have to be darn noisy to cause enough interference to cause a problem.

I havent time to study the pics at the moment but will hopefully work something out by wednesday, unless someone else can.

After a quick look as he has a lot of connections on the amp then it looks like most stuff should connect via that then from there to the TV

Sorry for the delay Ivan, I have been so tied up these last few weeks I havent even had time to upgrade the image on my satellite receiver yet, or answer another question on here about building a new pc.
The pics you sent me werent really clear enough so I am going to see if I can find the backs of the equipment on the manufacturers websites to hopefully get a better idea.
I had left monday clear, or thought I had, until I got a few phone calls with pc problems to sort out.
I will try and get something sorted out for you this week.

Wow, I cant believe its taken me so long to reply but here it is :


Ok you need to connect the HDMI out of your TEAC to the HDMI in of your TV.
Connect the HDMI out of your Bauhn HD PVR to HDMI in AV 1 of the TEAC.

The Highlander connects via the YPbPr (also known in the UK as RGB, for Red Green and Blue or Component) to the TV via YPbPr, you also need a coax lead, single RCA from the box to the TEAC Digital Input AV1 coax.

The LG can connect via the S Video out direct to the TV S Video in.
You also need a coax lead, single RCA from the box to the TEAC Digital Input AV2 coax

For the Satellite receiver, (if your TV doesn’t have a Scart socket, the picture you sent doesn’t show one), then unfortunately you will have to either use a scart to S Video adapter or use the Composite Video out (Single RCA yellow socket) to the Composite in on the TV.
The S/PDIF audio on that box has an optical out so you need to connect that to the TEAC Digital Optical DVD.

So you need 2 x HDMI to HDMI cables, as stated earlier digital is digital so you don’t need to go for those overpriced so called professional quality leads. I use £5 and under leads when I can get them and have had no problems.
1 x component lead (YPbPr or RGB) 3 x RCA at each end, quality cables can make a difference here if you are using a long run as its analogue but again for a short run cheapies should be ok.

I x S Video lead as with the RGB cable only need quality if on a longish run.

1 x RCA cable, yellow for convenience as the connections on the TV and the satellite receiver are yellow.

2 x RCA for the digital coax, these are digital so again cheapies are fine. I would probably use a paired white and red RCA if your Highlander and LG are close enough for you to be able to split the wires to connect for the audio as its probably cheaper and neater than having 2 single RCA leads.

1 x Optical cable, again, if light goes in one end and comes out the other then that’s all that matters, no need to pay silly money for better quality.

I hope that I have explained what you need and how to connect everything up in an easy to follow way.

That TEAC AV amp is unusual in that it has all those HDMI connections but no component (RGB) in or out and the non HDMI inputs arent upscaled and then output via the HDMI.
