Graphics card install
« on: August 04, 2009, 09:22 »
Just installed an ATI 9600XT graphics card (bought as new on ebay). Initially used drivers as supplied on accompaning disc, all ok but the drivers were 2004. When I tried to update with latest drivers from ATI website it said they could not find driver for my Graphics card or pc configuration. And yet the latest 9600 drivers (2007) are available.

When I checked display adaptor in device mgr it is listed as a ATI Mobility 9600 ( the one used in laptops etc) and yet i have a desktop pc!

I have managed to load some later drivers from another source but any ideas why I cant get the ones from the official ATI website?

Any help much appreciated

MIke

Hi Mike,

I assumed you're on Windows XP (?), and did a search on ATI's site for 9600 drivers, and eventually reached this page:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.24&lang=English

Does that help at all?

Yes exactly that, downloaded the 9600 drivers but the installtion wont recognise my graphics card pc combination. I think that because XP thinks it a mobilty (laptop Card) which it is'nt it wont proceed. Trouble is how do I stop it thinking that? It is possible I suppose that the card has a strange chipset on it. I tried uninstalling card, removing drivers but no luck. I have managed to install Omega- ATI enhanced drivers and it works ok but I would like to be able to install the pucker ATI drivers.

Have you tried going into Device Manager, and manually updating the drivers with your preferred ones, by choosing the location?  You may have to uninstall the old ones first.  If that's a non-runner, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas, but hopefully someone else will have some advice.

Thanks for the inputs Simon. I wonder if the card is a bit of a hybred ( not genuine ATI ). It works fine with the Omega driver set which may even be better that the RAdeon drivers but never the less its a bit strange!.

Thanks
