I'm a Trebor Mint man myself.
However, if Ubuntu had drivers for my USB modem, I might give it a try on my spare PC which has had Linspire 5.0 on it for the past two years and is in the cupboard, perhaps never to see the light of day.

ubuntu has gotten much better with hardware compatibility over the last few years so it might be worth taking a look again...
