Mmmmmm..... blackberry pies!
I made loads of apple and blackberry jam a couple of years ago and I've still got quite a few jars in storage. You've got to mix blackberries with something like apples because blackberries are low in the pectin which is needed for jam to set. I've also got gooseberry and elderflower, plum, strawberry and several unlabelled jars of pot luck
. All of which will happily keep for years and doesn't deteriorate after the jar has been opened, unlike supermarket 'jams' which have to be refrigerated and consumed within six weeks.
I don't have time for blackberry pies right now - we've got a glut of runner beans. So far this summer my dozen plants have yielded enough beans for 24 lbs of runner bean relish, 30 lbs for freezing, and loads of meals. This summer, it looks like I might max out both my freezers with runner beans alone!
Incidentally, I just clicked on the link and it took me to the article without any Blackberry hijack en route.
