Warning to Panasonic camera owners

Batteries

Panasonic have announced a software update to many of their cameras, this update activates code within the camera to make any battery not made by them or sanctioned by them fail to operate.

So if you have one of these cameras and a generic battery do not upgrade. Personally, I've had a generic battery with mine from the outset and no problems, about 1/10th the price of the official battery from the 7DayShop.

Thanks for the warning.  Fortunately, it seems it's not as though you can upgrade by 'accident'.  I wonder how many people actually check for software upgrades to their cameras?  I would never have thought to.

That's disgraceful and would make me think twice about buying a camera from such a rogue company.  I will never buy an Epson printer again and have persuaded others not to do so too.

Well, the cameras are very good, and you actually have to go to some effort to manage to update them, so it wouldn't put me off.

Me neither. The cameras are too good to ignore for that reason, especially when an update is controlled by the owner.

Don't they make an awful noise when you set them off, though? :scoot:
