Some of the biggies include timed autosave to keep you from losing your work, a spell checker for text objects, and a huge batch of preset filters.
According to the project's developers, the focus of Inkscape 0.47 is "to clean up legacy code and push forward the migration to clean object-oriented C++. The goal of this effort was to increase reliability and maintainability of Inkscape. In the long run, it will mean fewer bugs and more new features, because it will be easier to develop and find bugs in Inkscape.

That would suit someone looking for an open source graphics editor.  :thumb:

I still prefer gimp, but for vector graphics you really can't get much better than Inkscape.

I wasn't sure what 'vector' graphics are, so I skipped that bit.  ;D

It's great program but I found it kept freezing when I installed it on my Vista machine.

I reckon you'd be right to do so, Sam.

Also I bet Inkscape wasn't really developed with Vista in mind too.. so maybe its not just Vista's fault...

The image is described mathematically, rather than as a series of points of 'light' - the bitmap of a photo. Fonts are vectors, in the main. The big advantage is that you can scale them up or down without quality loss, and they will print at the resolution of the output device.

Anyone who wants a series of in-depth video tutorials on how to use Inkscape should be able to download them from this thread on a scroll saw forum.  Although the tutorials are aimed at scrollers who want to design their own patterns, the techniques have universal application and are aimed at people who know practically nothing about graphic design.

Moreover, you'll end up with a piccy of a cute little penguin if you complete all the tutorials :)
