Canon iP8700D

HELP!  This morning I tried to print and it said printer not on line. Tried unpluging printer and it came up with device not recognised, changed the usb printer lead and pluged it in direct (not through hub) with the same result.
Uninstalled printer and driver, rebooted computer and using Canon disk tried to reinstall. All goes well untill I reach the part where it says plug in printer and turn printer on and the it says "printer not found". All this points to the printer usb port faulty but why it was working last night and nothing has changed. What the hell is going on? HELP  :dunno:

Is it wireless, and have you tried that, Den?  Also, have you tried another USB port on the computer?

It's not wireless, have tried new cable into different port. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it failed to recognise printer. Have now installed via Control Panel - add a printer. It says installed but will not communicate with computer to print a test page. Just put a memory card into printer and it printed from that but still will not communicate to print from desk top.
Fourth in the 2018 Quiz of the Year but at least I beat Clive.

Clutching at straws, but is it set as Default Printer in Control Panel?

Thanks Simon, yes it was but I have just resolved the situation by deleting the drivers via device manager for all the usb ports and let windows reinstall them when I turned the computer back on. The printer is now being recognised and is working again but I would love to know what caused it.  :dunno:

My desk top running Windows 7 was having all sorts of problems over the last week or so and I was considering reinstalling windows. Last night I turned off Kaspersky 2010 and switched Microsoft Security essentials back on. Since then ever thing has run smoothly and much faster. I wonder if it was Kaspersky causing the problems with the printer.

Yes, Kaspersky 2010 isn't perfect by a long chalk.  FP's are a regular feature and if you don't spot the warning in time, it will happily quarantine innocent system files.  I thought AVG was a PITA until I bought Krapersky IS 2010.   >:(

Have you tried F-Secure IS 2010, Rod?  I'd renommend it.

Thanks, Simon.  I might well follow up your renommenomnomdation next time I need to renew my licence, unless Krapersky shape up PDQ.
