Topic: windows 7..screensaver issue

I have a new computer windows 7 compaq. I had installed screensavers recently. Now I want to uninstall them. But...I don't know where to locate them to uninstall them, or if I want to add some later. My old computer xp it was easy to locate the screensaver and it showed what I had. I did go to my computer/appearance/display, lost after that.  Appreciate any feedback on this..

Unfortunately, I haven't moved to Windows 7 yet, being a dinosaur, so can't help. Someone will be along shortly though.

Hi Sharon,

Often, third party screensavers are installed as Programs, so you may be able to uninstall them in the conventional way in which you would remove other Programs.  I had to look it up for Windows 7, but:

1.  Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
   
2.  Click the screen saver that you want to uninstall, and then click Uninstall.

Let us know if that helps, and if not, we'll try to think of something else.

ok here  is the deal,  when I click screensaver, all it shows are samples of what I could pick and install. There is nothing that shows what I already have installed, still can't find it and uninstall it.
Also...one quick question, I notice now that my curser/pointer is constantly flashing/ kinda like blicking, is that normal?

Yeah, the screen savers in that list are built into Windows, and are but easily removable.  If you have installed a screen saver you've downloaded, that should appear in the Programs list, as an installed program, so you should be able to remove it using the method above.

Sorry, meant to say the ones in the list are NOT easily removable.

As for the blinking mouse pointer, try turning the screen saver off, and see if that helps.

Ok..where do I go to turn screensavers off?? maybe that would help with some issues I have..
What started this problem was, I want to download music from you tube to my computer, than put the music on to my MP# player. I did install rip vinyl also, when I go to youtube, and select a song, rip vinyl won't work. As a picture pops up saying I have music card being used somewhere else. My brother thought maybe it was my screensavers..

OK, what are you using to download videos from YouTube?  I should say that it does probably breach copyright laws, but it might help us to establish the problem.  I'm wondering if that, or one of the screensavers you downloaded, may have contained some spyware.  Has your computer slowed down at all?  Have you looked in the Programs list, to see if any of the screensavers are listed there?

To turn off normal screensavers, you would go to the screensavers list in Display Properties, and simply select Off, or None, but if it's a downloaded screensaver, the options may be in the Start > All Programs list, or sometimes you can right click the screen when the screensaver is running, for the options.

Simon..what you are telling me to do, are you sure it is inwindows 7? Because what your saying doesn't match up with what I have.
What I was going to use to download music from you tube is rip vinyl software, you might be right about the copyright laws, so I may not do anything.
I will not be on the computer for about 10 days now, when I get back I'll try to work at it again..

I don't have Windows 7 myself, so I am just offering suggestions, Sharon.  You said you wanted to uninstall the screensavers you have downloaded, so I am suggesting you do this using the normal Program uninstall method, as I described, which I copied off the Microsoft site.  We can then establish whether that cures the mouse pointer issue, or whether that needs further investigation.

Windows 7 doesnt have the same way of accessing stuff as XP and Vista had. I sometimes struggle to find my way around how to enable or disable things. Its not helped by me not having installed it on one of my pcs yet, even though I have installed it on several peoples pcs for them.
The control panel is particularly unhelpful, although once windows 7 is running it seems to be a nice OS.
When I havent been able to find something in windows 7 I use the search thats on the the list when you click the start button, so I suggest you just type in screen saver in the search part and it should take you to the appropriate part where you should be able to select no screensaver. If that doesnt work search for the term that Vista used which was Personalize and you should find the option in there.
