Topic: New satellite image of volcanic ash cloud

This image, acquired on 15 April 2010 by Envisat's Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS), shows the vast cloud of volcanic ash sweeping across the UK from the eruption in Iceland, more than 1000 km away. The ash, which can be seen as the large grey streak in the image, is drifting from west to east at a height of about 11 km above the surface Earth.

They've closed all UK airspace till at least 1pm tomorrow.  Not heard of that before.  Chaos will ensue!

it already has from what I can tell. I thinks its a sensible move. I guess they have not needed todo it before but they are darn worried about engine failure. It sounds like Scottish airports will be open in the morning though.

I've not actually seen the news tonight, but I expect it will be a national disaster.

NTS are keeping air space closed until Saturday, according to reports this morning. This disruption is going to cost the airlines millions, and will begin to be seen in shops, where foods that are flown in simply won't be available.

Don't worry about the volcanic ash that won't be landing on your garden then will be landing on your garden.  It's perfectly safe.  That's what they told the dinosaurs too.

As we grow our own meat, its only the out of season fruit and veg that wont be able to make it here
