Comet Takes Death-Dive Into the Sun
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:36 »
Quote
Was this comet infested with the neural parasites that caused mass insanity on the planet Deneva in the original Star Trek TV series (Operation Annihilate)? Probably not, but this is a very cool video. Solar physicists at the University of California, Berkeley, have captured for the first time the collision of a comet with the sun. "We believe this is the first time a comet has been tracked in 3-D space this low down in the solar corona," said Claire Raftery who worked with colleagues Juan Carlos Martinez-Oliveros, Samuel Krucker and Pascal Saint-Hilaire.

Another piece of  Kreutz bites the dust.  :(   Pieces of that comet fall into the Sun every year, sometimes as many as five at the same time.  It must have been a truly enormous comet before it broke up.

interesting me and my boss were talking about this today, when you start thinking about it the probability might be low but there is a lot of these buggers out there... its just a matter of time.

I don't know how many pieces of Kreutz fall into the Sun each year but it must be at least 20.  Considering that comet broke up hundreds of years ago it must have broken up into a million fragments.   :dunno:
