Yes, I baulked at forking out another £30 to renew Norton's when Mrs Clive's expired a few months ago.  I downloaded AVG for her and found it to be very easy to configure and use.  It was set on automatic update and it updated at around the same frequency as the Norton's installed on my own computer.  However, when Mrs Clive's machine became sick and a clean installation of XP was necessary, Norton's forgot that it had been previously installed so she can get another year out of it.

I installed it today and its running fine.

The user interface isn't as user friendly as Grisofts AVG but it seems to be doing the trick.

Not really sure how to evaluate it - as I haven't (now to my knowledge) got any viruses.

Just a quick update on antivir.

Only installed one day already one update of the virus definition file.

It has also renamed incoming .exe attachments as .exe.safe after it scanned them. EDIT: No it isn't, that'll be the firewall

So far so good

AVG is still updating and working fine. However, should an alternative become necessary, the fact that free-av is made in Germany (a by-word for efficiency) it now tops my list ahead of Norman AV.

AVG is still accepting new peeps, I have just updated a win95 laptop to win98 (clean install)and added AVG to it and works ok   would they accept new peeps if they are closing down AVG 6

I've been running avast! http://www.avast.com/ anti virus for about a week now. The home version's free.
I'd been happy with AVG free version for ages but decided to play with this prog.
So far its good, it found a trojan with the initial scan - I assume AVG missed it, it was spyware, I think.

Compared to AVG theres a lot more settings to fiddle with. Its updated 3 times so far.
It integrates with Outlook and theres a wizard
which links it to Outlook Express.
It picked up Swen twice in emails yesterday!!!

Maybe you could add it to your list and I'd be very interested to hear if anyone else here has tried it.

I Use Bullguard, constant updates as soon as they've found how to stop the virus, and the updates are only ~100k and you get about 1 ever day and a half so it does me fine
