BBC to show Glastonbury 2010 online
« on: June 09, 2010, 20:42 »
The BBC has announced its full television and online coverage of Glastonbury 2010.

Over the whole festival weekend there will be live streaming and sets from across the different stages available at bbc.co.uk/glastonbury as well as shows on BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Four and via the Red Button.

This will include headline sets from the likes of Gorillaz and Muse plus other acts including Snoop Dogg, Dizzee Rascal and Florence and the Machine.

There will be online footage of new artists being showcased on the BBC Introducing stage as well as broadcasts from the John Peel Tent and West Holts Stage - formerly the Jazz/World stage.

The dedicated website will now feature a Glastonbury Archive which includes highlights from each of the 40 years the festival has been running, with surfers being encouraged to upload their own.

There will be an online vote on the greatest Glastonbury performances plus a Glastonbury quiz on the site, on mobile and on the official Facebook page.

In addition to television content, which will then be available online through the BBC iPlayer, 6 Music and Radio 1 will be broadcasting from the event.

And BBC Three viewers will be given a dedicated Glastonbury hashtag and encouraged to share their thoughts about the festival on Twitter and Facebook.

Jan Younghusband, BBC commissioning editor, Music & Events, said: "With the help of our expert presenters, we will bring one of the world's greatest cultural events directly to the viewers over a weekend of live music entertainment across TV, radio and online."

Glastonbury runs from Friday 25 June until Sunday 27 June.

I doubt there would be many I'd want to see, but the line up will be interesting.

Glastonbury never really appealed to me. I prefer proper rock festivals like download (donington park) or reading.

I prefer reading to Glastonbury too.  Give me a good book any day, rather than a tribe of acts I've never heard of.

argh.. let me rewrite that - Reading.

I'd be very surprised if you hadn't heard of any of those acts, especially Muse.

I'm not being funny, Sam - I've never heard of any of those bands.  I know it's an age thing, but at least my parents had heard of the bands that had public prominence when they were my age.

Same here, Gill. In my case, I suspect it's because I don't have kids to 'introduce' me to newer bands.

And we no longer have Top of the Pops to keep us abreast of the latest bands.

I think I stopped watching that in the very early 80s. :)

no winning with some of ya... I even decided to mention an out-dated media and I still lose! :-D

Actually I listen to the radio alot over here, but just Radio 5 with the occasional Radio 4 history show.

Music - I just pick things up online.

I used to run a hospital radio station called Radio 5, back in the late 60s/early 70s. I wonder if they are still going and, if they are, what they now call themselves.

Now, talking of good bands, BBC Alba has a Runrig concert on next week. :)
