Cannot find IP address
« on: June 12, 2010, 09:46 »
My Plusnet connection has stopped working on my PC and comes back with the errrort message "cannot find IP address".  There is nothing wrong with the router because the iPad is connecting without any problelm.  Any idea what might be wrong?

Have you tried rebooting the PC?

firewall software at fault?

You could go to the command prompt and type ipconfig, that will tell you if you are connected to the router.

Assuming you're connecting wirelessly, Clive, the first thing to check would be using a cable to eliminate the wireless side.

I did that Rik and it remained the same.  The iPad is wireless so I think the router is exonerated.  I will be taking a look at it this afternoon.

Then use ipconfig /all and paste the results, Clive.

:lol2:  Yup, there was no connection at all and ipconfig / all would not stay on screen long enough for me to read.  But I carried out a system restore and that has sorted it out.  Perhaps it was a bad security update.  :dunno:

Odd. Ipconfig should stay there till you close the window, Clive.

Ermm...  actually, this is how to do it:-

To open a console window from the command prompt:

- Type:  cmd
- Type:  ipconfig /all
- Then post your bank details here.

Hope this works helps.
