A single network of compromised computers is behind 40 per cent of all spam, according to security experts.

I can't believe that it can be that hard to track down and kill the source of these botnets.  Or, have I missed something?  :dunno:

its distributed computing, you take out one collection just as other machines are hijacked.

Before they were blown out of the water Blue Frog were on the right track, by targeting the advertisers using spam as their medium.  More on the sad demise of the frog in this flawed Wikipedia article here.
