YES.. 2-1 to the mighty Leiston
FA Cup Third Round Qualifying Replay: Saturday 9th October 2010Three goal Heath’s hot run continuesLeiston 5 North Greenford United 0A first half hatrick from leading scorer Gareth Heath set Leiston on their way to a comprehensive victory at the expense of Step Four Zamaretto Central Division North Greenford United. On a fine, dry afternoon Leiston welcomed back Heath and Ottley-Gooch while Calver was injured, Hammond cup tied and Smy suspended. Leiston began attacking the Fairground End and soon made their intentions clear. However it was the visitors who had the first shot at goal but Pither’s strike was straight at Stannard. Two minutes later Leiston got their first corner and from Harrop’s delivery Jallow turned over S Head’s header. Greenford looked eager to get the ball forward at speed but were restricted to shooting from distance, Stannard holding another shot from distance this time from Delisser. Leiston looked the more threatening and from a fine run and cross from Cunningham, Jallow fumbled but the ball fell just behind Heath and Turner was able to clear. Leiston’s pressure finally told on 20 minutes. Heath released the over lapping Saker inside the box who was then brought down by Fenton resulting in a penalty. Greenford contested the decision for a few minutes and after Fenton received his yellow card, Heath stroked home the penalty. A minute later Cunningham’s cross eluded Jallow and struck the top of the bar. Cunningham then became the second name to go into Referee Crysell’s book for a late challenge on Hillier as he crossed before a great run from Brothers, starting in his own half and ending with a shot from 20 yards was saved low to his right by Jallow. The tall Greenford custodian looked uncomfortable all half and on 34 minutes he was powerless to deny Leiston a second goal. Boardley’s left win throw was flicked on by D Head and the visiting defence dallied allowing Heath the time to thrash a shot home from ten yards. Leiston were completely in charge although Pither warned them of their danger with a great strike from the edge of the box that was only inches wide. But Leiston were too strong for Greenford and with four minutes of the half remaining added a third goal and again from the penalty spot. Harrop and Heath raced clear from halfway with Harrop releasing Heath inside the box. Jallow raced from his goal and crudely brought down the Leiston midfielder in full flight giving the Referee an easy decision in pointing to the spot. Jallow then received a straight red card for his troubles while Hibbs was substituted for Reserve keeper Sills to take over in goal. His first job was to get the ball out of the net as Heath confidently dispatched the penalty for his hatrick and 16th goal of the season. It was also his 9th goal in the FA Cup this season. The half closed with Stannard making a smart save low at his right hand post to deny Tilbury. After such an irresistible first half, the tempo was always going to drop. But Leiston were then dealt a blow on 55 minutes as Wardley fell awkwardly blocking Lawrence’s cross. After treatment the Leiston left back was stretched from the field with what looked like a nasty leg injury. Three minutes later Harrop added a fourth after a clever exchange with Simon Head, racing clear to stroke past Sills. The game now had a testimonial feel to it with Leiston dominating and a fine stop from Sills denied Heath another goal on 65 minutes after a great five man move. Greenford’s cause got worse on 71 minutes when after a midfield melee, Delisser received a second yellow thus reducing the visitors to nine men. Leiston continued to probe for further goals and were rewarded deep into stoppage time as the unmarked S Head nodded home Saker’s right wing cross to complete the emphatic victory.Leiston’s scintillating first half display set them on their way to victory with the lethal Heath instrumental yet again.
