Leiston in Good Shape for Double BidLeiston FC are in a strong position to mount a league and FA Vase double charge this season. Mark Morsley’s men have taken the Ridgeons Premier Division by storm in 2010/11 with just one defeat in 26 league games. The Blues have forged a five point lead at the top of the table over Norfolk rivals Wroxham with a whopping four games in-hand – such has been their dominance so far this term.Leiston overcame neighbours Kirkley and Pakefield in a tight 1-0 home victory on Tuesday night effectively ending the visitors’ hopes of finishing in the top three. In fact the win over Kirkley and Pakefield also leaves Leiston with a very winnable run of games following their FA Vase Quarter final trip to Coalville Town. The Blues face mid-table opposition in the shape of Stanway, Newmarket, Walsham-le-Willows and Haverhill before facing stiffer opposition in Mildenhall Town. By the time Morsley’s men host Wroxham at Victory Road on 5th April Leiston could already have one hand on the championship. It could yet be a magical double-winning season for all concerned at Victory Road, with Leiston just three games away from a Wembley final in the FA Vase. Their narrow Fifth Round victory over Northants outfit Long Buckby earned Leiston a trip to Coalville Town this coming Saturday. Coalville are going great guns themselves in the Midlands Alliance, leading the way having suffered just three defeats of their own this season, so it promises to be an intriguing affair.I was disappointed to read recent negativity towards Leiston’s efforts this season in the local press. Suffolk football is undeniably on an upward curve at present and surely the more success for the region’s teams the better. The rise of Bury, Lowestoft and Needham has increased the profile of Suffolk football tenfold and Leiston could be the next team to put themselves on the map by securing two major pieces of silverware this season and probable promotion to the Ryman League
We have just agreed a fee for another top notch striker to come on board for the remainder of this season and next year.. looks like the promotion charge is ON
THE RETURN OF THE PRODICAL SON 1 Hour, 44 Minutes ago Karma: 0 I`m hearing rumours that Lee McGlone has re-signed to Leiston until the end of the season. If this is the case I`m delighted.I know some may not share my joy, as my lamentations at his departure have on occasion brought replies of LAZY. Well if Lee starts scoring goals regularly for us again,it will be job done. Too often this season when we`ve attacked there`s been only a big space where our striker should have been.Taking nothing away from the Clacton keeper, last nights 3 goals were a poor return from a dominant performance and the number of chances we created. It`s been good to see Luke Hammond back in form during the last 2 home matches.
