Another tough match this week? 7 players out through Holidays and Injury as well.

Quote
Leiston 1 Hendon 0

A sweetly struck free kick from Stuart Boardley on the hour earned a much changed Blues there third win in four games. It was Stuart's 50th League goal for the Blues and settled an evenly fought contest.

Leiston 1-0 Hendon FC

Leiston recorded their second successive 1-0 win tonight at Victory Road in a hard fought fixture against a robust & direct Hendon outfit

The home side came into the game missing a number of key players through injuries & gave a first start of the season to full back Jack Cole & new signing from Cambridge City Matt Lock made his debut, while Hendon included ex Chelsea defender Michael Duberry in the centre of their defence. The Blues kicked off attacking the Estate End & after a succession of excellent Boardley corners early on it was the visitors who forced the early pace, the lively Jefferson Louis headed straight at Philips on 5 mins & the same player held of Adam Tann before seeing his shot acrobatically tipped over by the home keeper. Leiston responded & Francis stung the hands of Hendon keeper Horlock, then Hendon Captain Casey Maclaren was booked by Referee Pawley for an aerial challenge with Boardley that left the Leiston player bloodied from a cut above the eye. With 10 minutes of the first half remaining the Officials were called into action again, Gareth Heath released Ryan Crisp who was clattered by the visiting keeper who escaped with just a yellow card as the Leiston forward was running away from goal. Just before half time the visitors really should have gone ahead, following some great link up play between the Hendon forwards. Junior Morias chested the ball into the path of Louis, but his ferocious shot smashed Philip's crossbar, there was still time for the speedy Morias to race past a Leiston defender, but lob just wide as the visitors ended the first half just on top.

Half time 0-0

Neither side made any changes at the break & early in the half a great run from Joe Francis ended with a good shot that again tested the Hendon keeper & Leiston went ahead on the hour mark through Stuart Boardleys 25 yard free kick that seemed to deceive Horlock & nestle in the bottom corner of the net, it was the Leiston midfielders 50th goal for the Blues & would prove to the games decisive moment. Leiston now had their tails up & nearly went further ahead moments later, great work again from Francis wide on the left saw his swerving cross palmed into the path of Gareth Heath who acrobatically volleyed just over. Midway through the half Hendon introduced substitute Rankin, a player with plenty of football league experience & the game was now becoming increasingly open, Hendon's Lee O'leary hit the base of the post & Jefferson Louis then headed wide when he really should have at least tested Philips as Hendon searched for an equaliser. On 78 mins a superb cross from Francis was headed onto the outside of the post by Rhys Henry & despite some conserted Hendon pressure their last real chance of the match saw Louis once again manoeuvre himself into a good position, but drag his shot wide. After 4 minutes of time added on the Referees whistle brought an end to proceedings & 3 hard earned & very welcome points for the Blues.

Back to back wins in this, the toughest of leagues is a commendable achievement & successive clean sheets is also most welcome as tonight's visitors certainly gave no quarter with their physical approach & the excellent Jefferson Louis was a constant threat throughout, however this narrow & important win means we now go into the Bank Holiday weekend derby fixtures against Bury Town & Lowestoft with a little momentum with 3 wins out of our first 4 games.

Leiston - Philips, Cole, Ruel, Tann, Jefford, Boardley (Capt) Lock, Heath, Crisp, Henry & Francis SNU - Kerridge, Watling, Sprague, Westren & Webster

Hendon - Horlock, Seeby, Taggart, Maclaren (Captain) Fisher, Duberry, Diedhiou, O'Leary (Rankin) Louis, Angol & Morias Subs - McCluskey, Murray, McCann & Hornet

Saturday:

Chorley 0-0 Whitby Town

Today we play joint leaders and title favourites Łylde ........ err I mean Fylde away from home. During pre-season they were putting five or six past Conference and Division 2 sides without reply, so anything from there would be a massive bonus.

AFC Fylde 0-1 Chorley.  Att. 588

Couldn't go due to family commitments, but there must have been a big following from Chorley. Although Łylde are bank-rolled by a multi-millionaire, they play on little more than a field with a couple of empty shipping containers as changing rooms and refreshment area in a tiny village between Preston and Lytham St Annes and get a usual crowd of around 120.

At a wedding this afternoon, so will miss the game vs Stafford Rangers at home. Stafford have had a hard time of it over the last few years, being relegated from the Conference and then the Conference North and almost going into Liquidation at one point. After six games, they are currently propping up the table with 0 points and a goal difference of -10, so if Chorley can get into gear there might be another goal fest on the cards.

Chorley 3 - 0 Stafford Rangers. Att. 896

Up into second place as Ilkeston and FC United Manchester dropped points.  :)
